The story of
KOSIT a.s.

The story of KOSIT a.s. is a story of progress, innovation and commitment to the environment that began in 2001. When the City of Košice decided to modernise its waste management, the opportunity arose to create an organisation that would not only improve the quality of life of its residents, but also make a significant contribution to environmental protection. The company has gradually developed from a local provider of municipal services to a leader in waste management throughout eastern Slovakia.

The early years were crucial for building a stable foundation. KOSIT focused on gaining experience and expanding its service portfolio.

In 2009, it served more than 260,000 residents and hundreds of businesses. This expansion was supported by the award of quality and safety certificates, demonstrating the company's commitment to providing efficient, safe and environmentally friendly waste management solutions.

A key point in the company's modern history was the entry of an investor, WOOD and Company, in 2014. This was followed by massive investment in infrastructure, when KOSIT launched its largest investment - the modernisation of the Waste to Energy Facility.

 

This project had the ambition not only to increase the efficiency of waste treatment, but also to expand the production of electricity, taking the company to a new level.

At the same time, the modernisation of ZEVO has opened up new opportunities for the environmental activities of the company, which has decided to deepen its commitment to nature and future generations.

During this period, the KOSIT Foundation was also established, which supports a number of projects aimed at nature conservation and education on environmental issues. KOSIT has also set up an Environmental Education Centre that educates thousands of children every year about proper waste management. The move showed that the company is not only committed to operational and technical solutions, but also to the important education and raising environmental awareness among young people.

In recent years, the company has expanded significantly, implemented modern technologies and invested in efficient waste management solutions in order to position itself as a market leader. An important step in the expansion into the Western Slovakia region was the establishment of the subsidiary KOSIT WEST s. r. o. in 2016. The main impetus for its establishment was the construction of the Jaguar Land Rover car plant in Nitra, where KOSIT WEST has provided waste management services from the construction phase to the current operation. Gradually, the customer base expanded to include other industrial companies and partners from the municipal sector in Nitra and adjacent regions.

The most significant acquisition in 2023 was the incorporation of DETOX, s.r.o. into the KOSIT group of companies. DETOX provides a comprehensive range of waste management services throughout Slovakia, specializing in hazardous waste. It also provides end-to-end solutions across the entire supply chain, including waste removal, treatment, recycling and disposal.

In June 2024, the acquisition of FÚRA s.r.o. was successfully completed. In the districts of the Košice, Prešov and partly Banská Bystrica regions, the company works with waste from approximately 800 municipalities. KOSIT has also focused its attention on optimising processes and maximising the efficiency of its operations. In 2024, the company achieved record profit and revenue growth, further confirming its strong market position.

KOSIT is constantly striving to minimise its environmental footprint and is developing new ways to promote a circular economy.

This includes the constant search for innovations that bring environmentally and cost-effective solutions in waste management. The company is not content with the status quo, but is instead looking for ways to bring new ways and approaches to waste management. KOSIT today is no longer just about waste management. It is a strategic partner for any company, organisation or municipality interested in a sustainable future.

It is a symbol of the link between technology, innovation and environmental responsibility. The company has transformed itself from an urban enterprise into an inspiring example that shows how growth and development can be closely linked to the responsible management of natural resources.
